Annual Recertification

To recertify your license, you must go through the process of SafeSport Training, online referee module quiz and Safe and Healthy Playing Environments every year no matter whether it’s a Referee or Regional Referee license.

All recertification courses are done online and registration is open from August 1 through June 28 of the following year. All requirements for recertification MUST be completed before June 30.

Remember to do the US Soccer NCSI Background Check if it’s been just under two years from your previous one as you need to have an active approved background check to renew your license.

Referee Requirements

Age Limit	14 years or older
Enrollment	Registration
Previous Certification Experience	Must have held at least one (1) Referee license during the previous three (3) registration years or held a Regional Referee License in the previous registration year
Safety and Compliance	Background Screening (18 yrs. and older) SafeSport Trained (18 yrs. and older) Safe and Healthy Playing Environment
Training	Online Referee Recertification Course
Fitness Test	N/A
Practical Assignments	N/A

Regional Referee Requirements

To recertify as a Regional Referee, you must meet these requirements.

Age Limit	18 years or older
Enrollment	Talk to the Alabama SDA to get started
Previous Certification Experience	Must have held at least one (1) Referee license during the previous three (3) registration years or held a Regional Referee License in the previous registration year
Safety and Compliance	Background Screening SafeSport Trained Safe and Healthy Playing Environment
Training	Online Regional Referee Recertification Course
Fitness Test	Sprint / Interval Tests (FIFA Women’s Referee Test) Male – Category 1, Female – Category 3
Practical Assignments	Minimum of two (2) evaluations within the past 12 months that where the average is 8.0 or higher: One (1) at the adult amateur level, One (1) at the highest youth level (U18/U19) (2 x 45-minute half) ** Both evaluations can be at the adult amateur level as an option.
